State of Origin comes to Town
Melbourne was abuzz with NRL fever in June. The official number of attendees at the State of Origin in Melbourne was 87,122. NSW prevailed over QLD scoring 22-12 to give them a 1-0 lead in the series. As a special pre-game entertainment treat, the Australian band Peking Duk warmed up the fans.
The NSW “baby blues” fielded 11 new debutants giving rise to the most inexperienced side in 37 years. Their backline has been hailed as the driving force behind the win with fullback James Tedesco scoring the opening try.
The QLD maroons have claimed 11 of the last 12 series victory’s. Although it does seem that the tide may be turning with the retirement of keys players Cooper Cronk, Cameron Smith and Johnathon Thurston. Arguably three of the best Maroons to ever wear the jersey. Fullback Billy Slater and winger Dane Gagai were also unfortunate withdrawals due to injury.
