Event Details:
Event: World Beach Volleyball Tour (FIVB)
Date: 1st-4th February 2018
Venue: Victoria Park Lake, Shepparton
Attendees: 15,000 (approx)
February 1st through to the 4th saw the Federation Internationale De Volleyball (FIVB) World Beach Volleyball Tour make its way to Victoria Park Lake in Shepparton. With two purpose-built courts and grandstand seating for up to 500 people, the precinct hosted teams from 17 countries from around the world with international media and visitors also attending.
The City of Shepparton estimated the cash injection into the economy was over 1 million dollars over the 4 days. This event was a precursor to the upcoming Commonwealth Games to be held on the Gold Coast this year.
The event catered for 15 food trucks, live entertainment, carnival rides and fireworks. So how did the City of Shepparton plan for such an event considering they were estimating a crowd of over 15,000?
Infrastructure was paramount and the environmental integrity and safety of the area was the top priority. Partnering with the City of Shepparton, our temporary structure solutions became key to the success of the event.
Providing two separate temporary grandstands to seat the spectators for the event, we worked with the Council in extreme heat conditions. Over a day and a half, we constructed the safe seating the City needed to create the beach like atmosphere for the full beach volleyball experience.
It was a successful event for the locals, with Aussie teams finishing top 5 in both the men’s and women’s competition. Aussie, Aussie, Aussie….oi,oi,oi.
